AMBUCS Therapeutic Tricycles
The fun and freedom of riding your own bike is something everyone should be able to enjoy. Now, thanks to the AmTryke® therapeutic tricycle, even individuals who are unable to operate a traditional bike can finally realize this wonderful experience.
Established in 1994, AmTryke®, LLC is a company owned and operated by National AMBUCS™, Inc. AMBUCS is a national non-profit service organization dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities.
To date, over 9,400 AmTryke vehicles have been distributed around the world. The majority of these trykes are purchased by volunteer members of the AMBUCS organization and donated free of charge to financially-needy children.
These unique tricycles, which can be hand and/or foot operated, are designed to accommodate riders of all ages, sizes, and varying degrees of physical limitations.
Both physical and occupational therapists acknowledge the AmTryke tricycle's many therapeutic benefits, citing improved motor skills, strength development and self-esteem.
AmTryke Demonstration Site program
In recent years, AMBUCS has launched an AmTryke Demonstration Site program to provide places where people can be evaluated for a tryke by licensed therapists. This ensures the placement of equipment is both appropriate and sized correctly. For more information contact us.
AmTryke Wish List
If an individual is recommended for an AmTryke by a therapist, but their family is financially unable to purchase the tryke, that person will be placed on the AmTryke Wish List. In order to be placed on the Wish List, the AMBUCS Resource Center must receive a completed request form, an assessment form signed by a therapist or doctor, and a waiver signed by the patient or their parents/guardians. AMBUCS chapters in the nearest geographical location are then contacted to see if they would be able to sponsor that person's tryke. For more information contact us.
