Hard to believe (not really!) but for the 3rd time this YEAR, we made headlines in the National AMBUCS magazine! The Winter 2011 issue just arrived in mailboxes today, and there we are on page 21, shown giving away an AmTryke to Michelle Bache in Schoolcraft. AmTryke Giveaway in February

Alive After Five is planning to present a high schooler an AmTryke at Paw Paw High School in February. We are working with the Special Education instructor there to find a candidate. A local sponser for this AmTryke has already stepped forward to help - stay tuned for that announcement.

Dinner & A Movie Raffle Sales Starting Soon!

$2 million Donation to WMU O.T. Dept.

Fred Sammons and Dr. Barbara Ryder made a $2 million contribution to the Department of Occupational Therapy at Western Michigan University today. Fred is the National AmBility Chairperson and a board member of the Alive After Five AMBUCS chapter. Dr. Ryder is a practicing therapist and was the Occupational Therapy Department Chairperson at WMU from 1976–1985.

Therapeutic Bike to be Gifted in Schoolcraft

Alive After Five AMBUCS (a 501 3C Charitable Organization) will be gifting a special Schoolcraft area teenager with a Therapeutic Bike (called an AMTRYKE) on Tuesday, October 25 at 6:00 p.m. at Schoolcraft High School during a girls volleyball game intermission. This bike will assist Michelle Bache to become more independent with her friends while improving her balance and muscle strength. Michelle, the daughter of Susan Bache of Portage and Brad Bache of Schoolcraft, was born with downs syndrome and has mild gait and balance issues. Michelle is in the ninth grade, is 15 years old and loves to sing and dance. She recently attended the Big Time Rush concert at the Allegan County Fair. She participates in Special Olympics- swimming, bowling and basketball events.AMTRYKES were developed more than 20 years ago and are utilized by many different persons with disabilities for just these issues.

This gifting was made possible with donations from Newman IT, Kalamazoo Home Team, and various Kalamazoo Bike Club members.

Alive After 5 Gets District Awards
2011-10-05

At the Mid-States Regional convention held in Dayton, Ohio, Alive After 5 was awarded the Local Charities 2, Visibility 2, Chapter Website 2 and Public Relations district awards. The big awards went to Fred Sammons as District AMBUC of the Year and Donna Whitcomb as Project Manager of the Year for the high school AMTRYKE donation project. Great job everyone - sets that bar to a new level!
